SYNOPSIS: The Hudson Warehouse presents the second show of its 2006 summer season: Euripides’ The Bacchae. The new, young ruler of Thebes, Pentheus has blasphemed against the god of wine, ecstasy and theatre, Dionysus by denying his existence as a god. In order to exact his revenge, Dionysus has sent the women of Thebes, crazed of mind, to revel in orgies on the mountains. This act sends Pentheus into such a rage that the result can be nothing but bloody. Directed by Ashley Kelly-Tata with choreography by marcus d. harvey this tragedy of the Greek stage, this ritual that embodies the origins of theatre is played out vibrantly, entertainingly and proves itself still relevant to a contemporary audience. Running Friday through Sunday nights at 8:30 pm, August 4th-27th at the North Patio of the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument in Riverside Park at 89th and Riverside drive.
