SHOW LISTING: LA MAGNANI
Category: Solo Performance
By: Theresa Gambacorta
Directed by Elizabeth Kemp
Produced by Quatro Sorelli Productions

Running Time: 1 hr 10 mins

SYNOPSIS: La Magnani is a one-woman show that traces the life of the great Italian Actress, Anna Magnani. Beginning with her impoverished childhood, Magnani\'s life was a struggle against anger, loss and betrayal that was offset by an electrifying persona which captivated some of the great artists of her era, among them Roberto Rossellini who cast her in the film classic Open City and Tennesee Williams who wrote The Rose Tattoo for her, providing a role that led Anna Magnani to become the first foreign actress to win the Academy Award. La Magnani is both a glimpse of the woman behind the celluloid image and an insight into a great actress.

CAST and CREW: Theresa Gambacorta developed La Magnani in a six week workshop under the mentorship of Actor Studio member and Director, Elizabeth Kemp. She performed it to sold out audiences at the Gene Frankel Theatre in 2004. Since then she has been invited to perform the show at the prestigious International Poets Forum in Pittsburgh and at NYU's Casa Italiana Zerilli Marimo. Ms. Gambacorta is now making her off-Broadway debut in La Magnani. She has appeared in regional and national commercial spots and several independent films, most recently Bring Me Your Love. In 2000 she was the recipient of a Best Actress Award for her work in the film Sell Your Body Now! directed by Marco Puccione at the Turin Film Festival. Director Elizabeth Kemp, also an actress, has appeared on and off Broadway. A protegee of Elia Kazan, she was introduced to Tennesee Williams through him. After watching her work in the original cast of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Williams cast her in one of his last plays: Tigar Tail, the final version of Baby Doll. In New York she has directed at Ubu Rep, Westbank Theatre and the Actors Studio. She recently directed The Stronger and Homesick at Strindberg's Intima Theatre in Stockholm. She is currently the Chair for the newly established Actors Studio Master of Fine Arts Program at Pace University. La Magnani's creative team also includes set designer Shawn Lewis, a protegee of Tony Walton, lighting designer Jorge Arroyo and sound designer David Pinkard.
